Meeting With Minang Community leaders in Sydney

On 5 October 2009, the Consul General of Indonesia in Sydney formally recognized 14 Minang people as the community leaders representing Sydney within the parent organization of Minang Saiyo (MS). The meeting, was held at Wisma Indonesia and the first item of discussion was the upcoming fundraising event for the victims of the earthquake that struck the West Coast of Sumatera on 30 September 2009.
The fundraising event is set for the 31 October 2009, at Wisma Indonesia, and we are hoping to reach out to the Australian public to help assist the victims of this tragic earthquake.
The meeting was also attended by, Alan Gerungan, Chairman of the Indonesian Community Council of New South Wales (ICC of NSW).
Since the tragic earthquake in West Sumatera, the Indonesian Consulate General has been coordinating with MS, the ICC of NSW, and other community groups in the collection of funds. Charity boxes have been organized in various mosques throughout Sydney. So far we have collected a total of AUD 13,000 - most of which have already been directly distributed by the Chairman of MS to the earthquake affected areas.
Moreover, the government of New South Wales and other various community organizations, such as Islamic Council of Queensland, have also offered assistance to the victims.
