The Island of Flores, and in particular the district of West Manggarai, - hopping off point to the Komodo National Park, - gives priority to improving its infrastructure in the town of Labuan Bajo and surrounding areas in order to ensure a proper reception and enjoyment for participants and tourists to the prestigious Sail Komodo 2013.
At the moment, repair work on the roads in the town of Labuan Bajo and its surrounding areas are already underway, and drainage and access roads to the city and tourist attractions improved, said Head of Public Works of the district, Oban Adu , to the press recently . In addition, a budget of Rp. 1 billion has been set aside to widen and improve the road and drainage system to Lake Sano Nggoang, where 4 km. of damaged roads have already been repaired.
Komodo island , the protected nature park located next to the island of Flores features the unique habitat of Komodo, the only prehistoric dragon alive, and wonderful pristine seas surrounding the island. Sail Komodo 2013 is expected to attract hundreds of yachts sailing across the Indonesian seas from Australia and the Philippines to Singapore, as well as tourists from 87 countries.
Highlight of Sail Komodo 2013 which will take place from 6 – 9 September 2013 will be staged at three locations so as to spread out visitors, giving them the opportunity to see a number of attractions. The three locations are at the Pede beach, the Kampung Ujung Square and at the Batu Cermin cave.
West Manggarai itself boasts no less than 55 attractions, including the Snake Palace, the Cunca Wulang and Cunca Rami waterfalls, the Sano Nggoang Lake, megalithic villages, the Pink Beach and more, giving justice to its slogan: Komodo and So Much More.
